Instead of the Thruway,
\nthey follow the old highway along the river.
\nThe pace seems as leisurely
\nas the wide river
\nlined on both sides by old trees
\nand sedate gray stone houses
\nand rambling walled estates

Their faces relax
\nas the countryside rolls by:
\nsapphire river reflects
\nwarm blue sky;
\nautumn ocher fields
\nchant hosanna to the harvest;
\nconversation becomes ritual,
