Long deep whitecapped rollers answer the contrary wind
\nwhere the deep dark channel narrows between islands
\nthat funnel the cold raw power of the waves
\nupstream against the current of the mighty river.<\/p>\n

The marina worker on the phone told me
\n“You don’t want to be down here: there’s whitecaps
\non our inner channel out front the marina.”
\nI heard the shiver in her voice, urgency.<\/p>\n

I am content to sit within these warm walls
\nsecure against whatever comes
\nwind, rain, snow or something else
\ntoday is today: tomorrow is tomorrow.<\/p>\n
