They replaced a front window yesterday.
\nThe old one leaked cold in winter
\nhot in summer.
\nThe glass wore a patina
\nindelible as cataracts;
\npaint flecked like dandruff
\nonto the windowsill.
\nBut the death knell
\nhad been the rasp of my fingers
\non the weathered spongy wood.<\/p>\n
As they pried and chiseled,
\na spring breeze
\nwafted the perfume of old cedar
\nthrough the house
\none last time.<\/p>\n
The new window will not leak
\nwinter or summer;
\nThe glass is clear is filtered air
\nno paint flecks anything
\nno wood will weather.<\/p>\n
