Why does the street-trash Christmas cactus
\nwhich mooches all year in a dumb clay pot
\nbetween two larger, dazzling, talkier plants,
\nsuddenly dress up, make a pink media splash?<\/p>\n
You’d have to say it’s the ultimate bi-polar plant:
\ndown drooping in the dumps day after dreary day
\nslumping on the window sill as sorry as you see
\nbetween two showy scintillators smiling so at me.<\/p>\n
I have to wonder if there is some parable applies
\nthe plant saves up all year so it can give us a surprise
\nand open beauty when the rest are slowly giving up
\nand give us all a jump-start like a happy birthday pup.<\/p>\n
