{"id":128,"date":"2006-04-28T10:15:16","date_gmt":"2006-04-28T14:15:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/2006\/04\/28\/fifty-years-on\/"},"modified":"2006-05-01T19:08:03","modified_gmt":"2006-05-01T23:08:03","slug":"fifty-years-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/riverwriter.ca\/wordcurrents\/2006\/04\/28\/fifty-years-on\/","title":{"rendered":"Fifty Years On"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the annals of friendship there stands a great host<br \/>\nWho has welcomed his friends to his hearth<br \/>\nAnd for many a year he has opened his door<br \/>\nWith a smile and a hug from his heart<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In 1956 he was President of<br \/>\nAll the students of CCVS<br \/>\nAnd as that was the sesqacentennial year<br \/>\nHe distinguished himself with the best*<\/p>\n<p>Then to Queens and to Georgetown and on to the world<br \/>\nIn the service of Canada he<br \/>\nVietnam, Carribbean and then Lebanon<br \/>\nOnce a hostage he got them all free<\/p>\n<p>In the midst of all this he had bought him a house<br \/>\nWhich he fixed and he loved with great care<br \/>\nAnd he furnished it fully with exquisite taste<br \/>\nFor he knew how to do it with flair<\/p>\n<p>And still for his country he travelled the world<br \/>\nWith a staff and prestige and quite wittily<br \/>\nFirst UN in New York then our Ambassador<br \/>\nTo Ireland to Austria and Italy<\/p>\n<p>And in those years of pomp he still came back to stomp<br \/>\nOn his grounds and to cook for his friends<br \/>\nThe mighty he served but his friends he still lerved<br \/>\nFor he&#8217;s made a great home say Amen<\/p>\n<p>Now it&#8217;s fifty  years gone and he&#8217;s still moving on<br \/>\nHe has opened a new home to spend<br \/>\nSome time with his books and his friends<br \/>\nAnd he cooks he&#8217;s a good bud so say we<\/p>\n<p>Amen.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>* In the yearbook:<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Full page greetings from Governor General Rt.
