alien abduction

When I put my cat into the carrier
and take her to the vet
I am sure for her
it’s like being sucked up
into a UFO
and subjected to
alien experiments.

He speaks a language
she can’t understand
performs hideous probings
and extracts fluids
for no known reason
then leaves her shaking
and terrified
back in her carrier.

Nobody will believe her
tale of woe:
everyone pats her
on the head and says,
“I wonder
what’s really wrong?”
