the backs of my hands

twisted road map of country cow path veins
scrambling around outcrops and fallen trees
finding no way through the trees and jack pine
the tangles of vines and berry-laden debris
running breathing too hard trying too hard
scratched itchy tired thirsty eyes red brimming
wanting an end any end the end
