Dinner table

Polished maple table
clad in padded silencing
quilting and fine white linen
can support huge
silver, crystal and wit.

Seated about it beauty:
friends in gentle finery
bathed in soft light and
sweet sounds
partake of delightful
viands, sauces, breads
of no discernable nutrition
but enjoyment.

Fine wines, rich sauces
recipes legend in family lore
muted revelry conversation
revelations, wit racontrurial
unrehearsed joy in
deliberate humanity.

When it is over, memory
serves it up again
refined by angle
debated through the filter
of compassionate friendship.
