[another in the trip west/snow series]
riding across the prairie
in a winter cold
that freezes pipes
on a train in the night
west of Winnipeg
the fan train rumble train horn
immerse us in
jumbled simplicity
we stop
only the fan drones on
a fast freight roars by
it passes
we settle
then slowly trundle
down the track
across the flats
in the still and featureless night
