Dark land rises

black and white
the ancient beauty holds:
that snow and trees
in stark eye-led relief
live on in this
so silent land
snow lies in still and horizontal bed
trees stand naked vertical aloof
death the same as sleep

lie under snow in death or sleep
or stand
eventually lie down
sleep or die
ignoring all but bliss
black and white
the ancient beauty holds
