Deck

dry leaves
scuttle
old parchment shards
drag
ragged record
summer past

The cool grey breeze sweeps a few dry leaves
around the cedar planks, over which they scuttle
like torn remnants of a library, old parchment shards
that drag their tattered former greens, then reds
now ochres, a ragged record of the gentler time,
summer past, when sun and warmth conspired.

Dry leaves scuttle like old parchment shards
that drag their ragged record of summer past
over the abandoned deck.

dry leaves
scuttle
old parchment shards
drag
ragged record
summer past
