Election Night

Waiting to know if you are
loved
admired
lauded
chosen
or—–—–—–dismissed

and with that
—-dismissal
wondering if there be a little
—–disagreement
—–hatred
—–prejudice
—–repulsion
forming the decision

How can you sit
listening to the radio in the background
watching the television analysis
of all your decisions
of all your personality quirks
of the liability of so-and-so in your family?

How can you stand it?

Is a human being designed for such failure?
Especially when most candidates, like most sports teams, lose.

And what comes after?

Depends, doesn’t it
on whether you win.

Wait for it.
Maybe there is a songbird  singing brightly in your future.

But if there isn’t, what do you have in you
that allows, helps you to go out into the world
in the days and silent skies afterward?
