I could tell by the approach
neat pale fresh scrubbed haircuts
wearing conservative suits
pleasant non-commital smiles

I could tell by their eyes
they were mormons
on an evangelical mission
to introduce me to Jesus

I could tell but don’t know why
they assumed I knew
nothing about Big J
*.***or about them

I gave them a smile and
*.***took control
Hi. You new in town?
Not a good plan, but a plan.

Sure, we talked about Big J
and a little about the Book
of Mormon
*.***and then

*.***into talk about
the weather and
*.***how tough this street is
and before you knew it

I was on my way
and I have to say
I was feeling saved shaved
or sheared — take your pick.
