Narrow Panorama

When I read how Sam Clemens
Who as Mark Twain ruled
Popular literature and consciousness
With wit & perspicacity & confidence
For half a century —
But as Sam Clemens
Totally screwed up his family
By falling under the spell of
His secretary, perhaps because of
“Learned helplessness syndrome”
I see underlined a constant —
A parameter if you will —
That perfect life is impossible
And that is the beginning of wisdom.
