Just before dawn, listen:
Not to the creatures
High pitched outside
Not to the jet soaring
High overhead
Nor to the outboard roaring
By to a fishing spot
Nor the waves
Slyly lapping wearing
Time and earth and even
Sky away in clouds —
Listen to what is
Lying under all that:
Vibration in everything
Trying to speak unheard
Prying at you, an
Idea waiting for discovery,
Biding its time, more
Strident each day until,
Primal becomes normal,
Eyes see, ears hear, body
Finds, and we know
Why and how and all and
