Night Driving

Snow:
Parallel multiple tracer rounds
Flare head-on
Always just miss
Hypnotic in headlights
Switch vectors:
Murders of crows
Wheel as one
Cords flail tangled
At whim of slipstream.

Wind:
Smash
Sides of car
Flak bursts
Counter rhythmic
Hysteria of wipers
Salt whips back
Coats us
Heavy transport
Pounds night ahead of us
Hollow clacking of wood.

Hands:
Grip steering wheel
Wrists arms shoulders
Neck back spine hips
Single convulsive act
Lips in rictus
Death tweaks marionette
